Ogmore School

A single-user version of sleuth was installed and after just three weeks Ogmore used the results to streamline their behaviour strategies. We asked Ogmore to complete a feedback questionnaire and Phil Jones, Deputy Head, was only too happy to do so.

What features of sleuth originally interested you in the system?

"Ease of use, which can then form a useful record of a varied behaviour management system. As well as generating data for discussion sleuth is a more manageable way of recording ALL behavioural issues."

How do you feel that sleuth will benefit behaviour management at your school?

"In just a few days of using sleuth we have identified behavioural issues, which have been addressed by redeploying staff on duty to 'hotspots'. It has also allowed us to present data to all for discussion- especially giving an overview of a pupil or a class group."

There are a number of potential benefits to behaviour management strategies reinforced through the use of sleuth, how would you rank the following in order of importance from 1 to 10, where 1 is the most important?

  1. By improving access to incident and behaviour data
  2. By encouraging consistent sanctions
  3. By improving incident tracking and follow-up
  4. By its ability to analyse incidents and behaviour
  5. By improving incident reporting
  6. By improving incident recording
  7. By assisting in the development of staff support plans
  8. By assisting in the development of pupil support plans
  9. By reducing administrative effort
  10. By meeting DfES guidelines on incident recording

In what ways do you think sleuth will help members of staff with behaviour management?

To ensure consistency as incident report forms are generic and are taken from the screen, so sanctions are listed for staff to use. Also it allows data to be discussed and co-operation between staff encouraged in developing discipline strategies.

How do you feel sleuth could be used to support other strategies - e.g. in terms of direct work with students and parents?

With parents it allows discussion of incidents to give an overview of a pupil. Helps in the preparation of data and reports. A valuable resource.

The system claims to be "easy to use"- do you feel staff feedback would support this claim?

"Even within a few hours the most inept computer phobic could use the system. Ease of use is definitely a plus."

Why did you choose sleuth over other behaviour recording systems and which other systems did you consider?

Ease of use and the advice from the representative. We considered SIMS but it is so generic and user-unfriendly. Sleuth is straightforward and user friendly.

Do you have any other comments regarding sleuth or School Software Company .com?

"Excellent support and advice. First hand knowledge of education institutions and behavioural issues helped to design a system that schools can benefit from using. Collates information that can be used in a very positive way to adopt an approach with students.
